NPPSC announces new ID card guidelines

In early December, Navy Pay and Personnel Support Center (NPPSC) Detachment Pearl Harbor (PSD) was upgraded to Rapids version 7. Part of this upgrade included several changes in the verification process for issuing new IDs.

The biggest change is that every person needing a Department of Defense (DoD) ID Card, age 18 and older, are required to supply two forms of acceptable photo ID. There is a list of types of acceptable IDs on the NPPSC Web site at http://www.psdph.navy.mil/IDCARDAPPOINT0806.htm.

Sixteen of Hawai'i's prominent business and civic leaders embarked USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) off the coast of Oahu on Jan. 26-27 as part of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet's distinguished visitor (DV) embarkation program.

Military community invited to comment on proposed Honolulu Rail Transit Project

All armed services personnel are invited to submit comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) for the proposed Honolulu rail transit system. Comments may be submitted until Feb. 6.

The Draft EIS evaluates three Build Alternatives for an elevated rail transit system from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center and a No Build Alternative. The Build Alternatives follow identical routes, except by Aloha Stadium, where the:

  • Salt Lake alternative continues along Salt Lake Boulevard to Ala Moana.
  • Continuation board allows Navy to retain top performers

    The Navy issued new guidance Jan. 14 for non-designated Sailors seeking to participate in the March Navy-wide advancement examination.

    NAVADMIN 014/09 Rating Entry for General Apprentices (REGA) updates existing guidance and provides an overview of forthcoming changes to the rating entry process for non-designated Sailors.

    Port Royal Sails into Softball Playoffs

    USS Port Royal (CG 73) softball team received an unexpected gift on Jan. 24 when its opponent, Dead Ducks, was a surprise no-show at Millican Field in the teams' scheduled Winter Softball League (WSL) showdown.

    The WSL is a pay-to-play league, which is open to active duty, family members and Department of Defense civilians who are ages 18 years and older.

    With the forfeit by Dead Ducks, Port Royal was ushered into Saturday's Jan. 31 playoffs as the final qualifying team from the Winter Softball's National League.

    Maybe it's their 'git-r-done' attitude from having served as Navy chiefs, but for retired U.S. Navy Command Master Chief Maurice "Mo" Radke and retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Bill Hunt, age is just a number.

    Last month, the pair of pentagenarians held true to that statement, when they teamed up to compete in the 2008 EZ-Go Head Pro-Assistant Golf Championship, which was held from Dec. 2-3 at the Hualalai and Keolu golf courses on the Big Island.
